clone classic cuts continues to dig in the crates to bring back forgotten or obscure records from the past! this is 3 tracks by da posse (produced by hula... one of the outthere brothers... and with maurice joshua, k fingers & martell). strings & its my life are chicagos take on detroit techno... a rare release that sounds like a early derrick may record (think the dance) but maybe slightly more straight forward (as one might expect from chicago). a rare piece in house and techno history since this is one of the rare examples of a record that doesnt show the clear difference between chicago and detroit in the late 80s. this record most likely got produced within 1 year after rhythm = rhythms legendary nude photo and strings of life releases (both 87 and this came out in 88). as extra bonus track we have the groove. a phat bass driven chicago acid track that still rocks it. another fine piece of powerful dance music history back in the spot light!

the third release on phonica records is a no-nonsense dancefloor burner from matt tolfrey and d. ramirez, with a stunning remix from lauhaus. >bounce to me< is an exquisitely stripped-back jack track, propelled along by clipped vocal samples, deep chord stabs and funked-up percussion - as the title suggests, its all about the bounce. thats really all you need to know: this piece of music has been built for the sole purpose of dancefloor devastation and will do the job every time. matt tolfrey is the boss of leftroom recordings and one of the uks most compelling young dj/producers, with releases on crosstown rebels and viva music among others. d. ramirez is of course the sheffield-based producer behind numerous hit tracks for labels like four:twenty and his own slave recordings. the flipside remix comes from underground hero lauhaus, a dutch producer whos made quite a name for himself with his muscular productions for labels like remote area and intacto. here he toughens and tightens tolfrey and ramirezs original >bounce to me< into a rolling techno groove, adding real drama and forward thrust with crisp hi-hats and stacatto percussion. the soundtrack to late summer has arrived. bounce!

2009 is quite obviously sven tasnadis year, having already released five eps this year on cream-of-the-crop labels like pokerflat, ornaments and liebe*detail. each ep revealed a new facet of the leipziger, riding the nuances between the 4/4 beat. after his ep >down under influence< with juno6 in spring 2009, tasnadi now dishes up his new solo ep on cargo edition. >what we do< is a classic housetrack - very deep and peppered with vocal shots that hold the tension of the track over its whole length. it s smooth, yet deliciously rough around the edges. >amour fou< on the b-side surprises with a very compact rhythm - around the driving bass drum fly percussive elements, all tied together by a reduced bassline, some interspersed vocal samples and deep chords.

for the second release on ki records we invited a very special and talented artist from japan to join our label. daisuke tanabe, who studied art in tokyo and london, has been producing music for the last 13 years. various releases on zero dbs fluid ounce label and an impressive amount of remixes for gilles peterson’s brownswood imprint have proven daisuke tanabes versatility and talent for modern experimental electronic music. as a live act and dj, he performed with gilles peterson, onra, tim exile, hudson mohawke and clark. we decided to dare a leap into a more experimental way by publishing his outstanding flowers on a wall. the four-track ep will be released in august 2009 (500 copies ww on limited vinyl), simultaneously to his first album on japans circulation records.

the model is no stranger to gigolo, and we (the royal we) are no strangers to the model. as a supporter of gigolo records, you, our fated reader, should be familiar with our protagonist previous gigolo adventure. but in the words of the late george harrison, >all things must pass< and with this in mind we would like to reintroduce...
the model doesnt just have his own sound, he has in fact attempted to engineer his own genre: dark-techno-baroque. the sound has been crafted through a penchant for aristocratic mannerisms and a passion for high fashion and low fetish. it also happens to pretty succinctly sum up part of his unique personality. set against a backdrop of refined charm, there s an underbelly of something dark and brutal, which is possibly the best way to describe the a-side >in the night<. in many ways this could be seen as a return to form for gigolo, immediately poppy but structured as a classic song with haunting vocals underpinned with a driving techno rhythm. to further consolidate the techno aesthetic look no further then >flex on the b-side and you have a pounding track that could have been played by daft punk in 96 and will probably find a home with a diverse selection of djs today.
the >vampire funk ep< is the first release from the models forthcoming album on gigolo. the concept is in the same vain, but delves deeper into the dark-side of the model. exploring his fetish with the night and creatures that occupy its opulent corridors. like classic transylvanian tales the music from this album will present details that set the mood and composition to create tracks with narrative regardless of lyrics or words. the result being music that moves both bodies and minds and stirs the blood. as pretentious as this sounds the author of this mindless scrap of paper has the fortunate privilege of speaking from experience. as the mind that moves the hands that moves the keyboard is the mind that is being moved by the music as i type and you read. so we are already part way there. the rest will unfold in the coming months.

culoe de song is a new star from africa. his debut release on innervisions was a one of the best deep house record in this year. this second release is following his unique african touch deep house sound. a side, the fallen shiren is a emotional deep house with the sound of piano loop, african instruments and fantasy african chorus. this track is very modern and first class african taste house music. b side, inspiration is very simple but effective percussive house track. its a timeless dj tool.

marcus sur lives 30 minutes from cologne in essen and has recorded for several labels in the past like pottheads with whom he reached no 1 in the dcc charts with his >stop the junk< release. his latest tracks were released on highgrade and keno records. marcus sur played bass in a band but stopped in the 90ies to get involved in djing which lead to famous residencies in clubs such as >rote liebe< and >baikonur< where he was also responsible for the musical programme. with his release >down with the ship< on trapez ltd he shows his love for minimal music. his definition of minimal though has more in common with robert hood than with recent developments due to the fact that his love for rare groove and deep house music has been part of his life. his 2 track vinyl is authentic and cool and speaks the language of the coal mining district in germany, the ruhrpott. house music has always been big there and lead to the founding of one of the first house distributers in germany, ntt . marcus sur is momentarily resident at the gold club in essen where he will celebrate his release on the trapez label night (26th of september)

alex celler has made quite a splash in 2009! since his tuningspork debut ep trapped in dub, hes had a hitrecord la palma for arearemote, and consequently teamed up with fellow londoner anthea of phonica records. as anthea & celler they released a pair of 12?s forfreak n chic and cÚcille, and now their third effort as a duo appears on tuningspork. down with g.o.d. is a chunky and forceful workout, fuelled by jesus juice, with a distorted bass bounce and vaporous dubovertones that just might make the dancefloorbreak down and speak in tongues.

fourth release from do easy records comes up with an outstanding deep and groovy anthem delivered by no one less than producing genius daso from cologne. >im over u< catches listeners and dancers immediately with its remarkable piano hookline and a perfect timed groove. the funky vocals push this track to a real house bomb and will set each club and outdoor floor on fire ! again, daso at its best ! on the flip you find a percussive remix by romanian sound wizard ali nasser. ali well know for his very own house style gives the original a more oldschool and rough touch that is pushed by nice funky bass. for sure one of his exceptional remixes. we love it and we hope you too !

they smash down the door with the title track , >labyrinth<, a massive dancefloor killer with a big hit potential! with this track exium brings up oldschool memories with influences of their modern sound. this is exium at his best!
on the flipside, paul boex, mr. labelboss himself and his partner in crime marco rane, make their debut on the label with a soulfull remix of this original. with impressive releases on arms and naked lunch these guys prove once again that they are capable of bringin quality stuff to the floor. on the b2 exium comes up with a highly intelligent broken beat tune, called >plankton<. dave clarke already played this in his weekly >white noise< radioshow. big support!
